La diocesi di St. Gerard Majella è situata nella città di Kirkwood, nel Missouri e venne fondata nel 1955 dall’Ordine dei Redentoristi e sostenuta negli anni novanta dall’Arcidiocesi di St. Louis. Sin dall’inizio, la musica ha svolto un ruolo di primaria importanza all’interno della diocesi e nel corso degli anni sono nati diversi cori in cui cantano più di 100 coristi prettamente volontari: Children’s Choir, Resurrection Choir, ‘nSpire Group, Praise Band, the Instrumental Ensemble ed il Senior Choir che si esibirà questa sera.

Il Senior Choir canta in occasione di sante messe e delle più importanti feste solenni. Inoltre il coro ha cantato durante le Novene delle Suore Carmelitane, incontri di cori, e celebrazioni per Santa Cecilia.  

Penny Arslanian sin dal 2007 è Direttore di Musica e Liturgia presso la diocesi di St. Gerard Majella. Ha conseguito un Diploma di Master in Musica ed Arte dello Spettacolo. Nel corso della sua carriera si è esibita in numerosi concerti musicali sia da solista che come membro e flautista del Quintetto Intervale Woodwind. Sin dalla sua infanzia Penny Arslanian è stata educata a servire Dio attraverso il dono della musica. È stata musicista presso numerose diocesi degli Stati Uniti fin dal 1973.

Marge Calcaterra ha conseguito un Diploma di Master in Musica presso la Washington University di St. Louis. È inoltre Direttore di Musica presso molte diocesi cattoliche nell’area di St. Louis. In qualità di pianista e organista, Marge Calcaterra accompagna musicalmente ensemble corali ed è molto contenta di poter condividere questa magnifico viaggio musicale in Italia con il coro St. Gerard Majella.

The parish of St. Gerard Majella is located in Kirkwood, Missouri, a short distance west of the city of St Louis.

Originally founded in 1955 by the Redemptorist order, and staffed by the Archdiocese of St Louis in the1990’s, it has embraced music since its inception. Throughout the years, the program has grown to its current size of over 100 participants in the Children’s Choir, Resurrection Choir, and the spirited ‘nSpire group, Praise Band, the Instrumental Ensemble, and tonight’s performers, the Senior Choir. This choir sings weekly at Mass, on major feast days, and has provided sacred music outside the parish for Carmelite novenas, Church choir exchanges, recordings, and celebrations of the feast of St Cecilia.

Penny Arslanian is the Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Gerard Majella, a position she has occupied since February 2007.  She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music and the Performing Arts. Her extensive performing experience includes European concert tours both as a soloist and as a founding member of and flutist in the Intervale Woodwind Quintet, and as a guest soloist in many houses of worship and concert venues. Ms Arslanian was imbued at a young age to serve God through the gift of music. She has served as a parish musician in various Churches throughout the United States since 1973.

Marge Calcaterra holds a masters degree in music performance from Washington University in St. Louis. She is well known as a Director of Music for Catholic parishes in the St Louis area.

Currently a freelance pianist and organist, Marge continues to support music in worship by accompanying choirs in the area. She is thrilled to be a part of the Pilgrimage of St. Gerard Majella Choir to Italy--to pray and make beautiful music in such beautiful and historical spaces!
