Their repertoire includes
multiple musical styles and genres, including choral masterworks, church
anthems, spirituals, Gospel and contemporary selections. The church’s entire
music ministry includes 11 musical ensembles – including children’s choirs,
women’s ensemble, handbell ensembles, several adult vocal ensembles and a
symphony orchestra. As a part of the ministry of music, the Chancel Choir
regularly supports charitable causes and efforts.
St. Luke’s Director of Music
Ministry, Mark Squire, began serving in music ministry at age 12 as
church organist and has been involved in church music ever since. His High
School diploma is from the Interlochen Arts Academy (Traverse City, MI) where
his major was in organ performance. He then majored in Worship and Music at St.
Olaf College (Northfield, MN). Mark’s Master of Church Music degree is from the
United Methodist Scarritt Graduate Center (Nashville, TN), where he majored in
Choral Conducting and Organ Performance. From Nashville, Mark was awarded full
academic scholarship to the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of
Cincinnati, where he spent two years in doctoral choral conducting studies.
A native of Charleston, West
Virginia, organist Charles Manning earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. As organ soloist, Mr.
Manning has appeared with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis
Chamber Orchestra, the Indiana Wind Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphonic Band,
the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, Voce, and the St. Luke’s Orchestra. Mr.
Manning is currently Organist and Assistant Director of Music Ministries at St.
Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, and is also Organist and
Choirmaster at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck synagogue. His solo organ CD, For
All the Saints, was released in November of 2007.
