Gunter Brandstetter è nato a Linz in Austria, dove ha studiato fisarmonica dall’età di sette anni e chitarra dall’età di dodici anni. Si è esibito come soprano in molte produzioni scolastiche ed a sedici anni ha cominciato a dirigere il coro “Baptist Youth Choir”.

Ha studiato Musica con il Prof. Bachl presso il Bruckner Conservatory di Linz e durante la sua attività presso l’Associazione Culturale di Salisburgo ha collaborato con il Mozarteum. In Austria ha diretto numerosi cori di grande fama ed è stato direttore di opere quali 'Land of Smiles” (Lehar) e “Der Vogelhandler” (Zeller), così come di altre rinomate opere ed operette. In Autralia, Gunter Brandstetter ha diretto 'Iolanthe in a Nutshell' con la prestigiosa Canberra City Opera. Laureatosi in Psicologia ed in Scienze Religiose, Gunter Brandstetter ha inoltre conseguito due diplomi in Informatica, grazie ai quali nel 1979 è stato invitato dal Governo Australiano a trasferirsi in Australia. Nel 1981 ha fondato un coro presso il Club Australiano e nel 1987 ha svolto un ruolo decisivo nella fondazione del Coro Maschile di Canberra.

The Austrian Australian Choir proviene da Canberra, capitale dell’Australia. È composto da cantori austriaci e tedeschi, ma anche da membri australiani amanti della musica di questi paesi europei. Il coro fa parte dell’Austrian Choir Canberra, il quale fu fondato nel 1981 da Gunter Brandstetter. Nel 2007 il coro ha tenuto la sua prima tournée europea esibendosi a Praga ed in Austria. Dal successo di questa esperienza è nato un ulteriore progetto musicale europeo che ha visto il coro esibirsi questa volta nella Cattedrale della città di Colonia in Germania. Quest’anno l’ensemble ha il piacere di cantare a Roma nella Basilica di S. Ignazio e nella Basilica di S. Pietro, proseguendo questo viaggio musicale in Svizzera e Austria.

Gunter Brandstetter was born in Linz/Austria. He started learning the Piano Accordion when he was 7 years old and started playing the Guitar when he was 12. Gunter sang as a boy soprano in many school productions and started to conduct a Baptist Youth Choir at the age of 16. Gunter studied music for six Semesters at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz with Prof. Bachl and was later associated with the Mozarteum in Salzburg through his work with the Salzburg (Anifer) Cultural Association. He conducted a number of well known choirs in Austria and was the musical director for operatic productions such as 'Land of Smiles (Lehar), Der Vogelhandler (Zeller) and various productions featuring highlights of Operettas and Operas.  In Australia, Gunter conducted a Gilbert & Sullivan production of 'Iolanthe in a Nutshell' at Old Parliament House for the Canberra City Opera. Gunter is a doctor in Psychology and Religious Science and holds two degrees in computing. Because of his knowledge in Information Technology, Gunter was invited by the Australian Government to come to Australia in 1979. He started a choir at the Austrian Club in 1981 and was instrumental in establishing the Canberra Men's Choir in 1987. 

The Austrian Australian Choir is based in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. Its members come from Austria and Germany or are Australians who share a love of music from these countries.

The choir is the travelling arm of the Austrian Choir Canberra which was formed in 1981 by Dr Gunter Brandstetter. In 2007, the choir went on its first overseas tour to Prague and Austria. The success of this tour prompted a second tour in 2010, beginning in Cologne Cathedral in Germany, and ending in Vienna. In September 2013 the choir will sing in Rome at St Ignazio and St Peter’s Basilica, before continuing on a musical journey through Switzerland and Austria.
