Il coro “Zürcher Sängerknaben” – Pueri Cantores di Zurigo, fondato nel 1960 da Alphons von Aarburg, è composto da bambini che vivono nella città di Zurigo e che si incontrano due o tre volte la settimana per le prove. A questa attività, si aggiungono altre due o tre settimane di approfondimento musicale durante le ferie primaverili o estive. La carriera di cantore inizia nel conservatorio a sei / otto anni con lo studio di un ampio repertorio musicale per culminare con un concerto o con una tournée musicale.

Successivamente ai bambini viene offerta la possibilità di cantare nel coro maschile. Il coro è stato numerose volte all’estero in Italia, Belgio, Francia, Germania, Finlandia, Ungheria, Stati Uniti, e molti altri paesi. I Pueri Cantores si sono esibiti davanti a Sua Santità Giovanni Paolo II nel 1996 in Vaticano in occasione del Concerto di Natale al quale hanno partecipato tra l’altro molte personalità di primo piano del mondo della musica. I bambini sono regolarmente ospiti dell’Opera di Zurigo nell’esecuzione del “Flauto Magico” di W. A. Mozart, dell’opera di Lione e di Salisburgo. Il coro ha una stretta collaborazione con l’Orchestra da Camera di Zurigo diretta da Howard Griffiths e con l’Orchestra da Camera ungherese di Reményi. Sotto la direzione di Christoph Poppen, hanno registrato su CD la “Missa San Gotthardi” di Michael Haydn (1737-1806) insieme all’Orchestra da Camera di Monaco.

Alphons von Aarburg è il fondatore e direttore artistico del coro dei Pueri Cantores. Ha studiato pianoforte e direzione corale presso il Conservatorio di Zurigo. Ha studiato piano sotto la direzione di Hedy Kraft e Czeslaw Marek e canto e direzione corale con Franz Pezotti. E’ stato per dieci anni il principale professore di musica presso la scuola di Ausserschwyz. Grazie alla sua reputazione e al numero di concerti con i Pueri Cantores, pone la sua maggiore attenzione all’educazione musicale dei giovani e dei bambini.

L’Orchestra da Camera Remnyi Ede nasce a Miskolc, Ungheria, nel 1981 grazie ai membri della Scuola Secondaria Bartók Béla. Il violinista Károly Gál, oltre ad esserne stato il fondatore, ha diretto il coro per ben 25 anni fino alla sua morte avvenuta nel 2007, anno in cui gli è succeduto nella direzione il suo allievo Tamás Kriston. L’Orchestra da Camera Remnyi Ede è l’unica orchestra da camera del nord dell’Ungheria. È conosciuta e stimata non solo in Europa ma anche in Estremo Oriente. L’Orchestra suona spesso con i celebri Pueri Cantores di Zurigo ed il suo repertorio musicale prevede non solo musica da camera ma anche sinfonie, oratori, ed opere che spaziano dal Rinascimento all’Età Contemporanea.

The Zurich Boy’s Choir was founded in 1960 by its choirmaster Alphons von Aarburg and consists of boys, who mainly come from Zurich and meet twice to three times a week for musical training and rehearsal. They also participate in the twice yearly Singing Camp where rehearsal and fine-turning of the repertoire take place. The career of a Zurich choirboy begins at the Singing School, where six to eight year old boys are taught an extensive repertoire of music, which they will eventually perform – as the crowning glory of their career thereafter – in concerts or as part of the Touring Choir.

Later the boys can become members of the Men’s choir, if they are interested in pursuing their singing. The Choir has toured many times in Italy and also in USA, Belgium, France, Germany, Finland, The Netherlands and Portugal. The choir performed  1996 at the Vatican City in the presence of Pope John Paul II in the framework of the Christmas Concert together with outstanding musicians. The choirboys are also regularly invited at the Zurich Opera House to sing in Mozart’s Magic Flute and are equally invited to sing for the opera houses of Lyon and Strasbourg. The choir collaborate with the Chamber Orchestra of Zurich directed by Howard Griffiths and with the Hungarian Chamber Orchestra Remény. Under the leadership of Christoph Poppen the choirboys recorded a CD of Haydn’s “Missa San Gotthardi” in collaboration with the Munich Chamber Orchestra.

Alphons von Aarburg is the artistic director and founder of the Zurich Boys’ Choir. For over 50 years, the accomplished pianist, trained at the Zurich Music Academy. He was taught by renowned musicians such as Hedy Kraft and Ceslaw Marek (piano), Franz Pezotti (choir leadership, music theory and choral singing). For many years, Alphons von Aarburg taught music as one of the principal teachers of the Music Department of the Teacher Training College of the Kantonsschule Ausserschwyz. As the Zurich Boys’ Choir subsequently gained in popularity, size and fame, the choirmaster decided to focus entirely on what is actually his own lifework.

Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra was established in Miskolc in 1981 by the members of the most talented stringers of Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music. Károly Gál violinist was not only the founder of the orchestra, but also its music director for 25 years. After his death in 2007, his student, Tamás Kriston took over his duties. Its work and activity fills a gap, since Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra is the only chamber orchestra in the region. Its name sounds familiar not only in Europe but in the Far East as well. As a participant, it is always welcome at the concerts of the world famous Boys Choir Zurich. Among our repertoire there can be found not only chamber music, but symphonies, oratories and operas as well from Renaissance to contemporary music.
